The gulf basis was fairly quiet for corn and wheat at midday. The grain prices fell off some as the trading session neared its end. Hedging pressure has weighed in on some commodities as farmers looked to lock in a few extra cents. Demand for old crop soybeans has backed off considerably from two weeks ago. The weather still looks beneficial for developing crops for next week and that has added even more pressure to the prices.
There is a lack of fresh fundamental news for the crops. Demand remains disappointing for wheat. The U.S. needs to see a pickup in export sales. The large contracts are just not happening. The global interest is not keeping up with our projected outputs.
Timely rains and sunshine have helped our soybean and rice crops. Good weather is forecast for the next few days in the Grand Prairie.
