Diners Are Seeking Unique Rice Types

In a recent national survey of rice consumers, Riceland asked about dining habits. Nearly 90% of rice consumers say that they are eating the same amount or more of rice as they did last year. So, rice consumption has remained the same, but what we are seeing is diners expanding their palates and searching for new, unique flavors and the types of rice that is typically used in the preparation of those dishes.

Percentage of diners rice consumption by variety

While white rice is still a favorite amongst rice diners, many of the more exotic and unique varieties have been growing in popularity as diners expand their culinary horizons. Foodies, in particular, are 25% more likely to seek out restaurants offering more exotic types like Jasmine and Basmati. Parents are 25% more likely to seek out dining venues that offer brown rice, most likely in the interest of providing healthier options while dining out.
